New era of engagement in the world

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is greeting foreign diplomats at a White House reception,
hailing a "new era of engagement in the world."
Said the president: "We're doing together what none of us can achieve by ourselves."
Scores of ambassadors and other foreign officials were invited to the East Room on Tuesday for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at an annual diplomatic corps reception. Appearing with first lady Michelle Obama, the president told his guests that in a world that's more interconnected than ever, it's in America's best interest for all countries to prosper.
Obama said the governments were working together on global economic growth, confronting violent extremism, securing nuclear weapons and achieving peace from the Middle East to Sudan. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...ocId=D9ILPJV80

“Is he talking about Earth? Cause I don't see any of this happening from my perspective.” Quiped one poster on rr-bb.com

I don't see it either, and today's headlines don't reflect it.

There is a story on Reuters:

The world's wealthiest people have responded to economic worries by buying gold by the bar -- and sometimes by the ton -- and by moving assets out of the financial system, bankers catering to the very rich said on Monday.

Fears of a double-dip downturn have boosted the appetite for physical bullion as well as for mining company shares and exchange-traded funds, UBS executive Josef Stadler told the Reuters Global Private Banking Summit.

Global Private Banking Gold is all the rage
as investors flee uncertain markets and worry about inflation, but some bankers to the very rich do not take a shine to the precious metal.

David Cameron set to warn cuts 'will not be easy'
David Cameron will use his first conference speech as prime minister to warn spending cuts will "not be easy". He will tell the Conservative Party faithful in Birmingham that jobs will be lost and programmes cut. But he will also give his backing to wealth creators and pledge protection for the vulnerable, sick and elderly.

Banks' $4 trillion debts are 'Achilles’ heel
of the economic recovery', warns IMF Lenders across Europe and the US are facing a $4 trillion refinancing hurdle in the coming 24 months and many still need to recapitalise, the Washington-based organisation said in its Global Financial Stability Report. Governments will have to inject fresh equity into banks – particularly in Spain, Germany and the US – as well as prop up their funding structures by extending emergency support.

Fitch Downgrades Ireland's Rating
on Cost of Banking Bailout Fitch Ratings lowered Ireland’s credit grade to the lowest of any of the major rating companies and said there’s a risk of a further reduction. Ireland was cut to A+ from AA-, reflecting the “exceptional and greater-than-expected cost” of the nation’s bailout of its banking system, Fitch said in a statement today.

Coldest winter in 1,000 years on its way ...
Forecasters say this winter could be the coldest Europe has seen in the last 1,000 years. The change is reportedly connected with the speed of the Gulf Stream, which has shrunk in half in just the last couple of years. Polish scientists say that it means the stream will not be able to compensate for the cold from the Arctic winds. According to them, when the stream is completely stopped, a new Ice Age will begin in Europe.

It looks to me like the people who have the gold are taking it and forting-up, while the rest of us get the shaft. I think President Obama is taking us where we don't want to go. But go, we must. And it's not all Mr. Obama fault. I've been watching the USA slide for 40 years. People wanted change, and now that change is upon them, they don't like it, even a little bit.

But God will look after His own. Remember what Paul said:

Phl 4:8 Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things [are] honest,
whatsoever things [are] just,
whatsoever things [are] pure,
whatsoever things [are] lovely,
whatsoever things [are] of good report;
if [there be] any virtue,
and if [there be] any praise,
think on these things.

Think on these things.
