U.S. posts 19th straight monthly budget deficit
The United States posted an $82.69 billion deficit in April, nearly four times the $20.91 billion shortfall registered in April 2009 and the largest on record for that month, the Treasury Department said on Wednesday. It was more than twice the $40-billion deficit that Wall Street economists surveyed by Reuters had forecast and was striking since April marks the filing deadline for individual income taxes that are the main source of government revenue.
Portugal, Ireland, and Britain are also on thin ice.
There are report of demonstrators on the streets in Spain and Germany, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel may have her hands full since she acquiesced to Mr. Obama's pleading to save Spain and the euro.
José Sócrates, Portugal’s prime minister, will announce tough new austerity measures on Thursday, including a “crisis tax” on companies and wages, to accelerate cuts in the country’s gaping budget deficit.
Meanwhile from nydailynews :
“President Obama, making a swing through Buffalo on Thursday, got a taste of the region's famously spicy chicken wings - and one very spicy female fan.
"You're a hottie with a smokin' little body," Luann Haley, 45, told the president as he checked out the fare at Duff's Famous Wings in upstate Cheektowaga.
It was by the lightest moment of an otherwise heavy-duty day for Obama - and that included his lunch order.
Clearly straying from his wife's eat-your-veggies mantra, Obama paid $10.82 for 10 wings - five regular, five extra crispy - plus french fries and onion rings.
"This is the wing capital," the president tried to argue.
The unannounced stop at Duff's came as Obama planned to meet with factory workers in hard-hit Buffalo to talk about the economy, and later huddle at One Police Plaza in New York City with Mayor Bloomberg to talk about terror funding.”
Well... That's alright, Mr. President, I have a taste for chicken wings, myself..
