Compound in extra-virgin olive oil help prevent, treat Alzheimer's

Here's a little something that will make those of us who are long-in-the-tooth perk up.

Quote:
PHILADELPHIA (September 29, 2009) -- Oleocanthal, a naturally-occurring compound found in extra-virgin olive oil, alters the structure of neurotoxic proteins believed to contribute to the debilitating effects of Alzheimer's disease. This structural change impedes the proteins' ability to damage brain nerve cells.

Known as ADDLs, these highly toxic proteins bind within the neural synapses of the brains of Alzheimer's patients and are believed to directly disrupt nerve cell function, eventually leading to memory loss, cell death, and global disruption of brain function.

"Binding of ADDLs to nerve cell synapses is thought to be a crucial first step in the initiation of Alzheimer's disease. Oleocanthal alters ADDL structure in a way that deters their binding to synapses," said William L. Klein, PhD, who co-led the research with Breslin. "

Kashmir girl fights off militants

Here is an uplifting tale from Kashmir. If more people would try this, the armed gangs in the neighbourhood would be looking for a another line of work!

BBC NEWS

Kashmir girl fights off militants
A teenage girl says she killed a militant with his own gun after insurgents attacked their home in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Three militants stormed into Rukhsana Kauser's home in a remote village in Jammu region on Monday and started beating her parents in front of her, while four more waited outside. One of the militants wanted to marry Ms Kauser against her will, police said. Ms Kauser, 18, and her brother turned on the gunmen, killing one and injuring two more.

“ I had never touched a rifle before this, let alone fired one - but I had seen heroes firing in films ”, said Rukhsana Kauser "My parents told me to hide under the bed and then opened the door." "Without saying anything they [the militants] started beating my parents and my uncle. They beat them so badly that my parents fell on the ground. I could not see that, and pounced on one of the militants while my brother hit him with an axe," she said. "I thought I should try the bold act of encountering militants before dying."

Ms Kauser said she grabbed one of the militants by the hair and banged his head against the wall. When he fell down she hit him with an axe, before snatching his rifle. "I fired endlessly. The militant commander got 12 shots on his body."
Her brother, Eijaz, 19, grabbed one of the other militants' guns and also began shooting, and a four hour gun battle ensued.

The militants escaped and are now being sought by police who are using their blood trails as clues.

India raises nuclear stakes

India raises nuclear stakes

Quote: India can now build nuclear weapons with the same destructive power as those in the arsenals of the world’s major nuclear powers, according to New Delhi’s senior atomic officials.

They said India had built weapons with yields of up to 200 kilotons, which would be considered a “proper strategic deterrent” by the global community. A nuclear weapon above 50 kilotons is considered high yield. India’s enhanced capability gives it a considerable edge over Pakistan, its nuclear-armed arch-rival.

In my humble opinion we are not paying nearly enough attention to the nuclear threat to the world from India and Pakistan. They hate each other with a passion and both have enough nuclear weapons to cause nuclear winter if they start lobbing their nukes at each other. If the Taliban is victorious in Pakistan, India would, most likely, launch a pre-emptive strike. The Taliban threat draws closer every day.

Mr. Obama has revealed he is a paper tiger, not willing or able to help either India or Israel.

Wars and rumours of war... Just like the Bible says.

Obama: U.S. Does Not Recognise 'Legitimacy of Continued Israeli Settlements'

Obama: U.S. Does Not Recognise 'Legitimacy of Continued Israeli Settlements' Obama's stark declaration, which drew applause, was coupled with a call for Palestinians to end their "incitement of Israel."
FOXNews.com

But it was the use of the U.N. forum to carry the settlement message to Israel that drew the most enthusiastic response on the floor -- and incredulous reaction outside its walls.

Obama just put Israel "on the chopping block," said former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton.

This does bode well for Israel or the USA. I have long thought that the UN had an anti-Israel and pro_Palestinian attitude and now it seems that Mr. Obama is biased as well.

In his first speech to the world body, Obama applied his campaign slogan to the international community and challenged the global community to step up and fix the world's problems both at home and abroad.
"The people of the world want change," he said, noting that "just as no nation should be forced to accept the tyranny of another nation, no individual should be forced to accept the tyranny of their own government."

Well, talk is cheap, Mr. President, but it's actions that count, and, so far, I don't approve of your actions on this, and many other issues.

A Aftermath Czar?

While we, in the USA, are preoccupied by President Obama's health care bomb and the Acorn circus, Iran is make an atomic bomb that may be more lethal to us than even President Obama's advisers fear. I suggest he appoint an aftermath czar, if he has not got one already. The chances are he will need one sooner rather than later.

AP NewsBreak reports
VIENNA (AP) -
Experts at the world's top atomic watchdog are in agreement that Tehran has the ability to make a nuclear bomb and is on the way to developing a missile system able to carry an atomic warhead, according to a secret report seen by The Associated Press.

The document drafted by senior officials at the International Atomic Energy Agency is the clearest indication yet that the agency's leaders share Washington's views on Iran's weapon-making capabilities.
It appears to be the so-called "secret annex" on Iran's nuclear program that Washington says is being withheld by the IAEA's chief.

The document says Iran has "sufficient information" to build a bomb. It says Iran is likely to "overcome problems" on developing a delivery system."

The recent rocket tests Iran conducted were not total failures if they advanced their knowledge of long range guidance systems, as some believe. And Israel is almost out of options.

The JERUSALEM POST says:
Quote:
"srael will be compelled to attack Iran's nuclear facilities if Western powers do not impose serious sanctions against Teheran by the end of 2009, former deputy defence minister Ephraim Sneh said on Wednesday."

"We cannot live under the shadow of an Iran with nuclear weapons," he was quoted as telling Reuters in an interview on a visit to the UK. "By the end of the year, if there is no agreement on crippling sanctions aimed at this regime, we will have no choice."

Meanwhile, President Obama continues to push Israel into wars, or so says Wall Street Journal editorial writer Bret Stephens. It's a a sobering and must-read column Tue Sep 15.

“Events are fast pushing Israel toward a pre-emptive military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, probably by next spring. That strike could well fail. Or it could succeed at the price of oil at $300 a barrel, a Middle East war, and American servicemen caught in between. So why is the Obama administration doing everything it can to speed the war process along?..."
Well... this was in Washington Times
"Exclamation U.S. envoys hesitate to report bad news to Washington'
"Policymakers get tilted data"
Quote:
"U.S. embassies are discouraging or suppressing negative reports to Washington about U.S. allies, sometimes depriving officials of information they need to make good policy decisions, current and former diplomats say.''
And Fox News is reporting:
"Israelis, Palestinians Present Peace Blueprint (Divided Jerusalem)"
Wednesday, September 16, 2009
Quote:
"TEL AVIV, Israel — Jerusalem divided by a series of fences, trenches and walls. The West Bank and Gaza linked by a sunken highway. Palestinians and Israelis trading land that would require 100,000 Jewish settlers to move."

Things are moving quickly now, apparently of their own volition. But, no worries, God is still in control.

Tripartite US-Israeli-Palestinian summit

Tripartite US-Israeli-Palestinian summit

Israelnationalnews.com is reporting that
The Obama administration decided on Wednesday to schedule a tripartite US-Israeli-Palestinian summit at the U.N. center in New York for September 22, the day before U.S. President Barak Obama meets Russian president Dmitry Medvedev at the UN General Assembly, according to a DEBKAfile report. The three leaders will declare the resumption of Middle East peace talks. The summit’s date will require Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman to be present and away from Israel during Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year’s), the report noted.

In view of the strained relationship between the US and Israel and President Obama's apparent predilection for the Palestinian view, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be out numbered and out gunned. He won't be, however, out of options. His recent unexplained fourteen hour 'trip', amid rumors that he was in secret meetings with the Russians on a clandestine attack on Iran's nuclear, proves that he can still out fox the hounds.

But President Obama's appointment to head the United Nations Security Council, (UNSC) one of the principal organs of the United Nations does not bode well for Israel. The UNSC is charged with the maintenance of international peace and security. Like the UN, it is impotent, irrelevant, and too weak to make a difference in the grand scheme of things. But that could change in the stroke of a pen.

The Western European Union is a 10-nation alliance which, as some reports indicate, is a sleeping giant, with the military that the UN lacks. What does the future hold for the WEU 10-nation alliance, and the UN? The UN and the WEU have a long history of cooperation, and a skilled orator could use that to his advantage, to build a military force to match his silver tongue.

It looks like things are coming together for big bang. Stay tuned...

Judge orders trial on eligibility issue

Arguments planned Jan. 11 for major Obama challenge

A California judge today tentatively scheduled a trial for Jan. 26, 2010, for a case that challenges Barack Obama's eligibility to be president based on questions over his qualifications under the requirements of the U.S. Constitution.

If the case actually goes to arguments before U.S. District Judge David Carter, it will be the first time the merits of the dispute have been argued in open court, according to one of the attorneys working on the issue.

...The suit alleges Obama is actually a citizen of Indonesia and "possibly still citizen of Kenya, usurping the position of the president of the United States of America and the commander-in-chief."...

This is according to WND. I am going to let this go without, and lets you making up your own mind about it. But, what if....
